Huge strides have been achieved in the diagnosis and awareness of autism in recent years. But these developments have also brought to light a discrepancy: According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), white children are more likely than Black or Hispanic kids to receive an autistic spectrum disorder (ASD) diagnosis. This isn't because white kids are more likely to have autism; instead, they have easier access to care and screening for the condition. The disparity in autism diagnosis is particularly concerning, given how crucial early identification (by age two) is to a child's success.
